Reading in the Brain Part II

D states that our fovea can only see a small number (10 or so) of letters at one time when we are reading. Our eyes swim around and have to refocus for each word. He states, "reading is nothing but the word by word mental restitution of a text through a series of snapshots" (p. 17). He adds that almost all content words have to be fully read each time. Human max reading speed is about 500 words per minute. You cannot, he states, train people to read faster because of the biology of the brain.
