Some notes on The story of the human body, Daniel Lieberman
Cultural evolution- the process of change over time of what we learn. A combination of chance and intention.
Biological evolution-the process of change of an organism over time- there is no intention except to the extent that the organism "intends" on reproducing (need to find a book that talks about this limited view of evolution-what if reproduction is not the only intention?).
Anyway, cultural evolution plays a larger and larger role in our lives as culture becomes more complex and influential
Lieberman lists seven transitions in the evolution of humans, but is there an eighth one? Di digital culture revolution that is changing our brains in rapid and profound ways?
Advantages to bipedalism
Able to forage better for fruit as the savannah turned to woodland
Reduce the energy cost of knuckle walking
Allowed the freeing of hands for other tasks
Expedient adaptation that didn't require big physical changes
Also created disadvantages that evolution would then favor those who were able to overcome those disadvantages (we were slower and less stable) we needed to develop tools and endurance in order to overcome our disadvantages.
If it is true that we have evolved to store fat because it increases our reproductive fitness, would it also be possible that those who have something wrong woth their natural reproductive process would not have the same propensity to store fat and to resist exercise?
