Social pedagogy

Just came across this label on a blog,https://blogs.commons.georgetown.edu/bassr/social-pedagogies/, and the label seems to be indicating that how knowledge is communicated effects how knowledge is constructed. Given the theme of the blog (digital technology in teaching), they seem to be suggesting that digital technologies in this ever increasing social world can increase knowledge construction in the classroom. They emphasize authentic learning--learning that is useful, complex and interconnected with the classroom and life. Through authentic learning, they argue, adaptive expertise can occur. As I understand it, by this they mean that the knowledge learned in one classroom can be used in other areas and a tolerance for ambiguity, chaos and mistakes is developed. Finally, they emphasize liberal learning traits, which aren't explained.
How we present our learning (what they call representation) is an important subject of our own teaching practice--we need to reflect on how representation can create authentic learning and adaptive expertise. They emphasize the importance of a connected community where there is some shared responsibility for knowledge. The notion of authentic learning is important here because the more students believe they are working on something "real", the more likely they will be invested.
