Democracy and Education
Emphasizing that what we are teaching is part of a "continuously developing situation" (p. 148). Each "part" contributes to the larger whole of this class (the body of knowledge in the classroom), which contributes to the larger whole of the discipline, which contributes to the larger whole of the society and which is in constant revision and testing. A continuously developing situation. Seeing it through requires habits of mind (NCTE list). Seeing it through implies an ending which I don't intend. Rather it is a continual seeing (seeking). It is the combination of the mind and world in interaction.
